SWAN Hill’s unbeaten streak is under threat from Cohuna Kangas in this Saturday’s play to complete round five in Radio 3SH-backed Central Murray FNL senior footy.
The Swans take on the Kangas from 2.30pm at Swan Hill Recreation Reserve.
A four-nil record for Swan Hill is in stark contrast to last season when the club was last in a then 11-team competition on one victory.
Jason Murphy’s return to Swan Hill has signalled a major change in game style.
The Swans have beaten Ultima, 57 points; Murrabit, 75; Hay, 18; and Wandella, 138; who all crossed from the Golden Rivers.
Now Swan Hill takes on one of its CMFNL rivals in Cohuna Kangas.
The Jack Geary-coached Cohuna rolls into this contest in fourth place on a three-one record.
Key players for the Swans and Kangas include the centre where the hosts have James Horsey to take on Sam McGlone.
A Swans’ attack led by Will Simpson, Tom Smith and Harry Gadsden faces Lachlan English, Corbin Anderson and Brady Walerys.
Swan Hill captain Tom Holdstock is likely to oppose Kangas’ ruck-rover Tom Toma, as Buol Majur contests the ruck duels with Chris Anderson.
Players to watch for the Swans include Matt Gilbee, Rory Sheldrick and Luke Phelan and Cooper Angus.
A talented Cohuna line-up includes Mitch Treacy, Daniel Coates, Brady and Noah Hore.
Ultima and Wandella renew their rivalry from Golden Rivers days on Ultima’s ground.
The Joel Donnan-coached Ultima is on the rebound from a one-point loss at Hay in round four.
Key players for the Ultima Storm include Matt Taverna, Mitch Seton-Stewart, Lucas Caccaviello, Thomas Isma, Lincoln Frost and Kade Benfield.
Was a tough hit-out for Wandella at home against Swan Hill as the visitors won by 138 points.
The Justin Robinson-coached Wandella will look to Matt Wilkinson, Kaine O’Connell, Seth Rowe, Laing Waddingham, Darcy Ramage and Adam Ward to lead the way.
Mallee Eagles tackle Tyntynder at Lalbert.
A three-one record has the Harry Allen-coached Mallee in sixth place.
Latest hit-out for the Eagles ended in a 47-point loss to Nyah Nyah West United in the Demons’ den at Nyah Recreation Reserve.
Key players for Mallee include Darcy Hourigan, Jayden Post, Zac O’Meara, Cody Henness, Darcy McGregor and ruckman Hamish Hosking.
Tyntynder will have gained confidence from a 56-point win against Murrabit.
The Darcy Bibby-coached Tyntynder team includes Patrick Crowe, Harry Simpson, Sam Bull, Angus Crowe, Josh Dwyer, Jordi Bibby and Zac Denham.
Another big test for Murrabit as it hosts Hay.
The Blues worked hard to keep an opponent under 100 points for the first time this season as Tyntynder reached 89 points in round four.
Players to watch for the Rick Ladson and Jack Shannahan-coached Murrabit include Bailey Pengelly in the centre, Sam Copland and Adam Thomson in attack, Matt Moon and Ryan Smyth in defence.
The Blues also have Austin McKerrow, Ryan Harvey and Ben Derbas capable of winning many contests.
A win-loss record of three-two has earnt the Mick Cattanach and James Moran-coached Hay fifth place on the ladder.
A talented attack for Hay is led by Declan Watson and Jack Headon, as Fergus Cattanach, Dylan and William Collis, Tim Zambon and Harry Loughnan set up many chances.
In last Saturday’s start to the fifth round it was Woorinen which marked a 94-87 win against Koondrook Barham in Barham.
Nyah Nyah West United won at Lake Boga by 131 points.
Moulamein scored a 10-goal win at home against Balranald.
Kerang beat Tooleybuc Manangatang by three goals at Kerang’s Riverside Park.
