THE Wedge-Tailed Eagles reclaim their place on the fourth rung on the Champions IGA-backed CVFL senior women’s footy ladder after the weekend’s 17th round.
A six-goal win against White Hills at Woodend’s Racecourse Reserve put the Eagles back in the top four as Eaglehawk dropped to the fifth rung.
The Phil Hawkes-coached Eagles led 18-nil at quarter-time.
White Hills struck back to slot its first goal and kept WTE scoreless in the second.
Term three went the way of the Eagles, 8-1.
Inspired by the play of Demi Henderson, Teagan Ainslie and Ayesha Nicholson, Wedge-Tailed Eagles broke free in the last.
The Eagles scored four straight goals in the final term to complete a 50-14 victory.
Brooke Cowan and Emma Williams led the attack on two goals each.
Best for WTE included Brooke Cowan, Maddison Mansfield and Emma Williams.
Shauna Roy, Tracey Anderson, Jorja Gibson, Seisia White, Courtney Collard and Acacia Edwards were best for the Sharni Barker and Allara Jackson-coached White Hills.
Round 17 kicked off with Friday night’s match between Castlemaine and Eaglehawk at The Railway Hotel Oval in Castlemaine’s Camp Reserve.
Four goals in the opening term by Castlemaine were followed by three in the second.
The Jordan Cochrane-coached Castlemaine led 48-10 at the long break.
The Magpies then won the third, 28-7.
At the final siren Castlemaine was up 86-24.
Magpies’ captain Tiahna Cochrane kicked four goals as Mikaela Trethowan slotted three.
The Hawks’ attack was led by Hannah Kenny on two goals.
Best for the Magpies were Paynton Jolliffe, Eillish Cumming, Mikaela Trethowan, Tiahna Cochrane, Alice D’Arcy and Jemma Finning.
Eaglehawk’s best were coach Molly Metcalf, Lucy El Hage, Eliza Long, Lexie Moss, Hannah Kenny and Monique Gavriliadis.
On Sunday it was Sandhurst against the ladder-leading Golden Square at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
The middle quarters were when Golden Square took control.
The Bulldogs led 8-0 at quarter-time and then scored three goals in the second term and four in the third.
Was a tough hit-out for Sandhurst as it was kept goalless in a 51-2 result.
Taylah Moore led Golden Square’s attack on three goals.
Kira Gibbons, Ava Barker, Liz Watkins, Lucy Gilbee, Taylah Moore and Maddie Jelbart were best for the Darren Walsh-coached Golden Square.
Sandhurst’s best were Lily Campbell, Lily and Milla Franklin, Chloe Naughton, Taylah Klemm and Hannah Maher.
The Sandhurst team is coached by Liam Ireland and Andrew Saladino.
Bendigo Thunder took the points as Marong forfeited the match set down for Weeroona Oval.

Sandhurst won a thrilling clash with Storm in Sunday’s round 14 clash in the Champions IGA-backed CVFL under-18 girls footy competition
The Dragons fronted Storm at Queen Elizabeth Oval.
Sandhurst led 16-8 at half-time, but it was Storm which surged to a one-goal lead going into the last quarter after it added 2.2 and kept the Dragons scoreless in the third term.
The maroon and blue fired up to win the last, 9-0, and the match, 25-22.
Goalkickers for Sandhurst were Etta and Tully Place, and Chloe Tweed.
Marlie Skinner kicked all three of Storm’s goals.
Best for Sandhurst were Addison Magro, Ruby Kelly, Moanarose Moefaauo, Myah Humphrey, Macey Pinner and Tully Place.
Storm’s best were Marlie Skinner, Chella Fitzgerald, Isabella Stevens, Jorja Cunningham, Forest Jackson-Leahy and Scarlett Ward.

The Magpies led 19-8 at half-time, but the Kangaroos bounced back to score two goals in the third as Castlemaine added 1.1
Final term went the way of the Magpies, 14-6, to secure a 40-26 victory.
Castlemaine’s attack was led by Ava Bartlett on three goals.
Matilda Rose kicked three goals for the Kangaroos.

The Hawks won 51-14.
Darcy Martin led the Borough’s attack on three goals as Zoe Hodgskiss kicked two.
Both of Marong’s goals were off the boot of Alyssa Wardell.
Best for Eaglehawk were Rima Shanley, Sezin Lees, Kyah Spiteri, Maggie and Bethany Pollock, and Jessica Cox.

At Gourmet Pantry Oval in Golden Square the Bulldogs faced the unbeaten Woorinen.
The ladder-leading Tigers charged to a 103-1 victory.
Prue O’Sullivan and Meg Young kicked four goals as Zoe Brooks booted three majors for the yellow and black.
Woorinen’s best were Meg Young, Stella Bibby, Ruby Butler, Prue O’Sullivan, Erin Johnston and Carly Shepherd.
Best for Golden Square were Skylar Hickman, Emily Brown, Lucy Johansen, Laylah Walsh, Sihanna Carter and Evelyn Williams.
