Winning streak for Redbacks, Tigers rolls on

THE winning streaks by Wedderburn and Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers kept rolling in Saturday’s fourth round in Goldacres North Central FNL senior footy.

It was Pink Round across the competition as clubs supported Women’s Health and the Breast Cancer Network Australia.

On the field, Wedderburn scored a 45-point win on Donald’s turf.

A closely-fought opening term went Wedderburn’s way, 22-18.

The Redbacks then scored five goals in the second and kept the Royals to a behind.

Wedderburn led 56-19 at half-time.

Donald hit back to win the third, 14-10, but it was the Tom Metherell-coached Redbacks who finished strongly by scoring four goals in the last to complete a 91-46 victory.

Eight goals by the classy Matt Perri in a best afield feat highlighted Wedderburn’s win as Noah Furlong kicked two majors.

Donald’s attack was led by Ashley Reed on four.

Best for Wedderburn were Matt Perri, Dane Keuken, Mitch McEwen, Sam Lockhart, Darcy Jackson and Corey Lowry.

Charlie Campbell, Lachlan Sneddon, Pala Kuma, Parker Sneddon and co-coach Daniel Pearce were Donald’s best.

The Royals have Matt Walder as co-coach.

Birchip-Watchem charged to a 76-point win at Boort Park.

The home team led 26-21 at quarter-time, but from there the Bulls were in control as they slammed on nine goals in the second term to be up 77-27 at the break.

Boort fought back in a third term which the Bulls won 22-16.

Led by Meyrick Buchanan, Joseph Madio and Rhona Conboy the Bulls scored eight goals in the last for a 149-73 result.

Joseph Reid and Rhona Conboy led Birchip-Watchem’s attack on six and five goals.

Other multiple goalkickers were Ricardo Liparota on three as Daniel Bell and Lachy Foott kicked two each.

Boort’s attack was led by Jacob Mulquiny on three as Kayne and Tyson Rutley slotted two each.

Best for Birchip-Watchem included Daniel Bell, Sam Simmons and Heath Smith.

James Byrne, Carlos Egan, Jacob Mulquiny, Jackson Daley, Lachlan Hall and Tom Potter played well for the Andrew Rutley-coached Magpies.

Calder United Lions scored a 110-point win on St Arnaud’s turf at Lord Nelson Park.

The Saints played well to lead the Lions, 26-20 at quarter-time.

Calder United powered to a 25-point lead by half-time and then dominated the final hour.

As the Lions scored seven goals in the third they kept the Saints to a point.

Another seven goals in the last capped a 148-38 victory by the reigning premier.

Dale Pearce and Steven Stroobants slotted six goals each as Cody Green kicked three.

The Lions also had Steven Kennedy, Justin Laird and Rylee Smith add two goals each.

St Arnaud’s leading goalkicker was Lucas Bridger on two.

Best for the Lions were Steven Kennedy, Josh Walsh, Dale Pearce, Rylee Smith, George Turner and Jack Marlais.

Calder United is jointly coached by Jordan Humphreys and Tom Bickley

Nick Maishman, Will Jackson, Lucas Bridger, Mitch Egan, Sean Holroyd and Joe Maishman were best for the Harley Durward and Darby Schilder-coached Saints.

Sea Lake Nandaly Tigers hit the 250-point mark at Charlton Park.

The Tigers scored 10 goals in the first, seven in the second and 12 in the third.

Although it led by 175 points going into the final term, SLN’s intensity did not let up as the yellow and black added nine goals.

By the final siren Sea Lake Nandaly led 250-14.

Max Cahoon dominated in attack with 12 goals as Lachy McClelland kicked six.

Other multiple goalkickers were Wade Donnan, three; and Brodie Adcock, Boyd Bailey, Brandon Bailey, Zac Kelly, Robin Nahas, Brody Weir and Jai Wright on two each.

Charlton’s goalkickers were Jeff Debast and Ben Lanyon.

Best for Sea Lake Nandaly were Max Cahoon, Wade Donnan, Thomas Cox, Boyd Bailey, Trent Donnan and Brandon Bailey.

The Tigers are coached by Boyd Bailey and Wade Donnan.

Zac Wescott, Ben Lanyon, coach Carl Thiesz, Jeff Debast, Xav Tadd and Elliott Fitzpatrick were best for the Navies.

Sea Lake Nandaly faces Donald from 2.30pm at Sea Lake Oval.

Calivil United takes on Charlton in Wycheproof.

Birchip-Watchem and St Arnaud clash at Birchip’s George Cartwright Oval.

Wedderburn’s on home turf at Donaldson Park against Boort.
